STANDARD 6 – Telecommunication and Information Access
The competent teacher will use telecommunications and information-access resources to support instruction.
Artifact: Glogster Poster
Reflection:
The artifact for this standard is Glogster Poster that I created on Service Learning using the online social network, Glogster. This network allows users to create unique interactive posters called glogs. I used Glogster as a telecommunication medium through which I creatively displayed important information on the educational strategy of Service Learning.
Through the completion of this artifact I have demonstrated my knowledge in accessing telecommunication resources to support instruction. This informative Glogster introduces the concept of service learning to students and professional educators alike in an engaging way so that this type of learning can be promoted in a school setting. While creating this Glogster I accessed and utilized telecommunication tools and resources for information sharing purposes and multi-media publishing. Since Glogster is a web-based social network, I was able to use web browser applications to enhance my communication on service learning to an audience.
This artifact represents my introduction to the online social network, Glogster and experience in utilizing this telecommunication resource for educational purposes. I had never before created a Glogster and after doing so with this artifact I see its importance and unique role that it can have in the classroom. This artifact definitely extended my thinking about ways to present information to students as well as different mediums through which students can present information to the rest the class for a project or assignment. I enjoyed creating my Glogster on Service Learning and plan to use this interactive, poster-making social network again in my future classroom as a telecommunication resource.
